AEKI ensemble represents Artistic Exchange for Knowledge and Inspiration. We are a group of three musicians based in Finland interested in using music as a way to enrich global musical connection between different communities. Each of us come from different countries but we were able to meet and make music together because of our connection to music. We believe that the use of music could be a significant tool in the tying together people across different backgrounds!

A bit about how our ensemble came to be:

In the Fall of 2018, we discussed about the possibility of performing as a group and traveling to countries that neither one of us had ever been. We wanted to visit a country in South East Asia, as we didn’t know about the music scene there. The only problem was that there are no pieces that we know of written for our group of instruments!

Many emails and grant applications later we were able to find one composer from Cambodia, Bosba Panh, and a composer from Finland to write for us so that we could perform both pieces in Finland and Cambodia. Find out more about our Cambodia x Finland 2019 project by clicking (here)! We hope to continue our projects in the future between different countries and communities.

Unlike a standard chamber music ensemble our main goals and projects are slightly different:

🌎Looking to commission new works for our unique combination of instruments (clarinet, saxophone, and cello) from composers that come from diverse backgrounds all over the world.

🌎Discovering the role of music in communities outside our own.

🌎Starting a global dialogue and collaboration among musicians.

🌎Figuring out ways in which we could use our musical background to help communities in need.
